OUNYO WORKS

I work as a wheel thrower in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, mainly making green bodies for Kutaniyaki while also creating my own works, mainly white porcelain.

I have been working as a potter for 10 years and have been familiar with pottery art since I was a child, as it was my father's work. At a pottery vocational school in Kyoto, I learned the basics of becoming a potter in a city rich in culture and history.

Later, I did my apprenticeship at Myosen Tobo in Ishikawa Prefecture, where I had visited on a study tour of the vocational school. The art works of the seniors and masters were highly skilled and delicate, with no compromise at all. It was a valuable time for me to learn many things in the best environment, such as how to make the base, how to fire the kiln, how to apply glaze, and the importance of treatment before and after the graze. While making the base for my fellow painters with whom we were trained together, I was finally able to set up my studio in my hometown Morioka, in the spring of 2021.
